Teaching grandkids to shoot a bow

Postby reddogge » Thu Nov 19, 2009 3:39 pm

I've been working with my 3 grandsons ages 9,7,5 this year teaching them to shoot a bow. I recently worked with my 7 year old grandaughter last weekend. I have one left, a 4 year old grandaughter who will start next year hopefully. She did help retrieve arrows. I find kids are naturally drawn to the stick and string and will shoot all day long if you let them.

Now that is great stuff! I wish I would have learned about archery at an earlier age. It wasn't until my 30's that Tradrag (husband) bought me a bow to shoot. I love it! Kids are into it too. He is great and patient with us all.
just trying to keep it in the 10 ring ;)

One thing teaching kids is you will loose or break lots of arrows. I found that out when I took the two older boys on a 3-D shoot. They told me I'd just have to make them more arrows!!!!

Never met a kid yet, who didn't get some enjoyment out of flinging arrows. Way to pass it on!

always great to start off some new trad archers! I saw you had a Howatt bow in one of the pictures, always been a fan of those.

That's the '73 I picked up really cheap on **** because it was so filthy. It cleaned up perfectly and looks new. It wasn't cleaned in that picture. I had one in '72 just like it and loved it.
