2015 Buck

Post by KsBow » Fri Dec 11, 2015 10:29 am

I've been watching a buck on my place all year and finally had the chance for a shot on Dec 10th. The last nice buck I killed was on Dec 10th of 2011. I have pictures of him from velvet to the day before I killed him. Pics are from August, September, October, November, and December. Last pic is his last day. So here's his last 5 months in review.

My Buddy David from Arcadia and I were discussing that very thing. Not sure who it was, but at least they didn't bust his rack up. Pulled a chip today from the camera where I shot him. I have a picture of him about 20 seconds prior to shooting him. Here's the dialogue: Mr. George Jones, I'd like you to meet Mr. T. B. Magnus, Mr. Magnus, I'd like you to meet Mr. George Jones! With that brief exchange of pleasantries, they met and Mr. Jones ran north with Mr. Magnus sticking out his left ribcage.

Then, of course, I waited the traditional 3 minutes before following up on the shot. When you center punch a decent buck, you know he's dead and just doesn't realize it. I'd highly recommend waiting a bit longer that three minutes, but I was having a severe adrenalin attack and shaking like a leaf, so I had to take up the trail. BTW In the excitement of putting an arrow into the buck I wanted, I excited the blind with my Orange vest and stocking cap laying on the ground inside. Just in case someone wanted to question my apparent lack of "Hunter Orange". Do the orange feathers on the arrows count?? lol

John, it don't count as Buck Fever if you start shaking AFTER YOU'VE put an arrow in him!!

I agree with Ralph and Mr Kenny Rogers and don't count you points till the killings done. My buddy can tell about every kicker on the deer he missed while range finding and counting points on one that left before he had a chance to shoot. I a John Cook bowhunter shoot all your arrows until you run out then while your looking for your ammo maybe you'll find a blood trail! Just kiddin John . Everybody have a MERRY CHRISTMAS. One thing about my Buddy John....I've never had to help trail a deer for him. He does it himself. Now I have helped him run down tom turkeys but that's a whole nuther deal.

Got ole George Jones' rack back from Nature Boy's Taxidermy. All cleaned up and ready to mount on something. He wound up in low 150's, if he'd had normal brow tines he could have broke 160. Oh Well, he tastes good. :applaud:
