Ft. Sill Buck With A Round ball

Postby Falcon » Tue Oct 20, 2015 6:07 pm

Sunday was the second day of Ft. Sill conventional muzzleloading deer season. Beat the brush for several hours before settling in a stand overlooking a pond that deer often use.

At about 19:15 i saw a buck at the far end of the pond. i fired and the buck went down, flopped about one minute and expired.

The ball left an entry hole over 1 1/2 inches in diameter: It may have hit a branch before striking the buck. The ball did not exit.

From my tree stand on the pond dam i was considerably higher than the buck. The buck was facing me. The ball struck the deer in the back high in the ribs.

Distance: About 45 yards
Gun: .54 TC New Englander
Powder: 120 grains of Black MZ
Ball: .530
Primer: Winchester #11 magnum
Patch: Commercial
Patch lube: Leath R Seal

That is great. Love to see those pics of smokepole deer. Should make some good meat for the winter.
