Chisholm Trail Crawfish Fest in Yukon

Post by Dingus » Wed Mar 25, 2015 8:59 am

We are invited back to Yukon for the Crawfish Festival. It is June 6th. We set up our gear to make "stuff" (bows, arrows, leather goods and points) and talk to the public about what we're doing and about the Oklahoma Selfbow Society. It is more of a demonstration. We don't sell anything and we don't teach as we do at OJAM. We have room for at least five or six guys or gals. They feed us lunch and dinner. Who can make it?
Mike

BTW, here's a link to their page. We made it on the page!

I'll give you a qualified yes. Shouldn't be a problem scheduling this far out. I'll see about getting Matthew to help out also.
I might see about modifying a pop-up with canvas or wooden uprights as last year they didn't want our tents to clash with the frontier motif.
For those who haven't been to this, we had a great time last year and got a great deal of exposure (also front row seats to gun fights and medicine shows).
Mike, perhaps we could get general handouts for OJAM XII or generic OSS info as we had a lot of inquiries last year.
Look forward to it.

I'll put it on my calendar, can't commit fully. I know there is a family trip on the horizon that I have no firm date for yet!

Ha! You guys are so funny! Making fun of a.... silver-haired guy! (Can't bring myself to use the 'O' word.)

Anyway... for all of you that weren't at OJAM, this is now an inside joke on me... which I'm sure THESE guys would be happy to share with you.

One item of real business.... the folks at the Crawfish Fest have us located with the "period reenactors" so don't bring an modern tents or pop-ups. If you need cover, it should be the old canvas type material so we blend in with the others nearby.

Looks great, John! I'm with Alex, you can't have too many friends. I bet Jr talks to all those bows when nobody is around to talk to. :D

I received an email from the organizer of the Fest. They need a "head count" for meals. Justin gave me a firm commitment. Sounds like the rest are "maybe". We need to firm up.

Again, set up time (when you can drive your vehicle to the spot we are in) is 0700 to 0800 on Sat. morning, June 6th. After that, you can't take your vehicle in until the event shuts down at 1900. If you have to leave during the day, you have to carry all your stuff out.

So.... who is in for sure?

Mike,
Unless something comes up unexpectedly, I'll be there. Do you have a preference as to what you'd like for me to bring along? Last year the arrows seemed to be fairly popular, but I've got plenty of unfinished bow business I could work on if you'd rather stay with just bows. Either way, I'm looking forward to a good time.
By the way, do we have any OJAM flyers or information that we could hand out? That seemed to be an item sorely missed last year. If you'd like, I could copy some of the info previously posted about OJAM, our mission, etc. If we have something on hand then all the better.
See you Saturday.

Looks like Justin, Doc and I are firmed up to be there. If anyone else is going, sound off.

Doc, the arrows were a hit last year, but whatever you'd like. I'm going to work on a bow and straighten some cane shafts.

Looks like we have a good group but there is always room for more Erik. BTW guys, I'll have OJAM flyers and membership applications with me. We usually have a few that are really interested in what OSS is doing and they often want to be a part of that. See y'all Saturday.

Amen on the flyers and applications, Mike.
Erik, would be glad to see you come out too. Fair warning, the frontier streets are crawling with gunfighters and ruffians. No doubt there will be a couple of shootings between the frontier town sheriff and ill-mannered drunks, mule skinners, and the like. Might throw in a couple of broad heads!

Gentlemen,
I was just notified that my presence is needed in the Clinton ER tomorrow. They're completely insensitive to the importance of my presence at Yukon.
This is just a last minute appeal to anybody who might want to go out and enjoy a beautiful day making bows (or arrows) next to a old west frontier street replete with gunfighters, cowboys, and a large number of interested onlookers who all seem interested in our craft.
Sorry for the last minute bailout guys. This is one I really looked forward to.

We had a great time at Yucon! Tim, Marila and Andrew were there. Danny and Erik were also there. We worked on bows and met a BUNCH of people. Many people said they'd come to OJAM.
