Postby redarrow » Sun Feb 08, 2015 10:20 am

Ok, so I have never tanned/cured fish skins, and I am wanting to try it to put on the back of a bow! I Know some of you have probably done this, so I'm looking for some pointers/hints on the process!!! Anything would be great!! :?:

Ok so I'm wondering if you can tan them like a snake skin. Glycerine and alcohol?

I've backed one bow with fish skin, a grass carp. Put it on green. The most important step is washing and scraping and scrubbing all the oil out of the skin.

So we are talking cold water any detergent/soap? Scrapping then towel drying/removing oil? No need to tack it out?
