Old Fence Post

Postby Bloodhound25 » Mon Oct 26, 2015 8:57 pm

Well they replaced the fence last summer at the family farm in Nash, Ok. They piled up the old posts and I happened by there and noticed that some of them were made of osage orange so I scrounged up a couple of them to try to make bows out of. I started this one last week and I will keep posting pictures as I get the bow further shaped. I have no idea if this will a good bow due to a few knots and some bug damage. It will definitely be a challenge. This is the first piece I'm working on, more of a test piece.

Well I worked on it some more after work and chased a couple more rings. I got rid of most of the bug holes and cracks and got it shaped some more. Starting to look like a bow.

Left limb in the pic. About mid point, right after some knots, there's a flat spot for about 8 inches or so. Check it out and let us know. Pics don't always tell the whole story. But there's definitely a great bow there.

Thanks Tim. Ralph there sure is, that's the reflexed part. I need to be patient and bring it around slow.
