" TWO TAILS "

Postby Poggins » Tue Nov 04, 2014 9:29 pm

This is a bow I made for my supervisor at work , he is left handed so this build was new to me .
The bow is backed with rattle snakes that he gave me , the bow is osage .
It is my first recurve , had a little problem with my belt sander and the belt jumpe a little while I was removing some extra wood from one of the tips so I put walnut underlays on and cow horn tip overlays .
I superglued the scales down and the finish is TrueOil .
The bow is 60" tip to tip , I have to find a bow scale to get an accurate weight but using bathroom scales it's pulling 55# at 28" , I'll get a more accurate weight later .
I can flip the bow over and shoot it right handed and like the way it shoots , I added an extra groove on one of the tips ( I was looking at it like a right handed bow when I did and put it on what will be the bottom limb , OOOPS ) and built a string for stringing the bow up .

The name "TWO TAILS " comes from some of the responses I get when I show folks a pic of the bow , it's in the grass and looks like two rattlers moving through the grass with their tails up , some take a few minutes before they relize it's a bow that they are looking at , the cow horn even looks like the rattles .

Outstanding bow! You have done a great job on the tips and skins. I'm sure it will shoot as good as it looks. Man, you will be in charge of all the classes at Ojam next year. :D

Good job.

Thanks Mike , I've got a little more finish work and turn it over to it's new owner , I really want to get something with it before I do , I've taken it out hunting a couple times but no luck .

He does , I've taken it to work to have him pull it before I put the skins on and then took it back to show the guys at work .
Bet he brings me more rattle snakes .

Very nice, Billy! This might make it easier to get off for some of our events. :D
