I built a hickory board bow that I hunted with this past year, and now I've got a bamboo backed ipe longbow a-la Okie glued up and on the form. I'll see how it turns out. If this new one is successful, I may have a new life long addiction! I've never built a self bow but I'd love to give it a try.

I biuld all wood laminated long bows. I normally back them with raw hide but will be starting a baleen backed bow soon. My friend is native so he can legally work the baleen while I take care of the bowyering. I also do a bit of restoration work.

Building is at least as fun as shooting and there is nothing on earth like harvesting big game with a bow you made! It's far worse than crack.......probably too late for you already!

I'd like to build my own bow, but I don't have the skill, tools, forms and most of all, patience. :( If I could build something similar to my two Blacktail recurves, but in a 68" length, I'd be in hog heaven. :D

Building my own bow is at the top of the list of things I need to do. I don't have a clue about how to go about it but want to build one for my grandson. Probably gonna have to try and hook up with someone to learn the ropes. Think there are a couple fellas in Oregon that teach people so may try that. It would be worth my time to spend a couple days with someone who knew what they were doing.

I've been building bows since 91. Selfbows, bamboo backed, composite. I've made many and have been fortunate enough to harvest my share of critters with them. Deer, turkeys, javelina, hogs, coyotes, bear, bobcats, squirrels, rabbits, snakes, grasshoppers, etc

They make great appetizers!! :rolf:

I've built a few in the past few years myself. I've been doing a lot of bamboo backed bows lately but I do like to chase a ring every now and then.

You obviously don't realize the stealth required in stalking P&Y Hoppers, or the miniscule size of the kill zone on these critters!! :rolf: :rolf:

Built a yew longbow for my first bow. Backed it with goat rawhide. I gave it to a friend who shot it better than me. No pictures of it completed, but here is a pic when I was getting input on the tiller. Image

For my last birthday another friend gave me an interesting hazel stave and have lately been getting a hankering to remove the wood that doesn't look like a bow :D !

!'ve had aspirations of building my own bow. I can think of no greater thrill than to harvest an animal with a bow that I built myself. I drewled while reading the board bow build along and decided to take the leap and build one. Bought everything that I need and then, My brother gets kicked out of the house. Guess where all of his crap is. :x

So far he has removed 1/2 of it but my paitence is wearing thin. As soon as I find a hole big enough, I'll be starting.

Backwoods, that one is easy. Just start using his stuff as saw horses and sanding blocks! It'll be gone in a heartbeat!
