Postby Greywolf » Tue Oct 20, 2009 11:44 pm

I got a call from Tom Kidwell the other day, Guess he and Tradrag are chasin my favorite critters around Oklahoma or Texas for a few days.

Just wondering if anyone has stuck one ? Hey Tom Ole buddy... Welcome to the tree huggin society  Ya see Tom got to get intimate with a tree to get away from a hog that wanted to invite him to leg lunch. :rolf:
Had one do me the same way, Was I skerd?.....Uhhh... No.... I Uhh... just wanted to get a better look higher up on the tree that's all.. :rolf:

We had a great time. It was my first 'O' fficial hog hunt. I learned a lot too. I am ready to get back after them and will most definitely use the bird seed and more strawberry gelatin.

I am still in awe that Tom got charged by the boar.

Yep, they are great creatures to hunt, they have ok kinda eyesight, but the nose is their greatest asset. they can smell your track as much as 2-3 weeks old.
But, havin said that..... I have found, that is the way to get around it too. Wrap a old Sweaty T shirt kinda close down wind of the bait pile. something they can smell and see, it's not a threat (they will even chew on it so make sure it's disposable). mainly just put some of your scent in the area, their hunger will over-ride the threat they feel. they will be on alert, but not too bad.

Then when they smell you,They will ingore your faint (scent-free washed) smell when your hunting. To lure them in, use whole corn, molasses, rottin fruit, syrup, powdered kool-aid ours love strawberry. dig a hole and pour some in the hole for them to dig up, couple hand fulls with syrup will do the trick.

Funny you should say that.... Just tonight I was settin in the middle of a 85 acre "pen" had a huge hog walk in and look around and just wonder off to another area of the 85 Acre pen, not to be seen again in that area.
I did see him again (or maybe another hog) just at dark 1/2 mile away from the "pen" area I was sittin, he saw me just bout the time I saw him. Again funny thing, he was the only other hog I saw in the whole 85 acre "pen" area.

Hutch, I've got a line on some hogs out by Haywood. Including a cemetary thats been getting rooted up every night. All within 5 miles of the west gate of your employer!

Need to check it out and make another trip out to Double Falls again.
