Ahhh...what a exciting evening...

Postby Greywolf » Sun Sep 27, 2009 12:15 pm

Had a great evening Friday, sat the stand, had one small hog work it's way through. didn't seem interested in the feeder so it moved on. It was cloudy most of the day, dark came a little quicker in the woods. I got down and did a walk about the ranch, at the far end, I was still hunting along the trail when 8-10 hogs popped out of the elephant grass, 45 second sooner they would of been right across from me.
They moved up the trail rather quickly, after 5 minutes and lot darker now I was within 30-35 yards of the big boar.
Hogs act different at dark, the boar couldn't tell what I was, they wind was in my favor and it was just dark enough for things to become "hard to say what it is" So he started my way to investigate, at 18 yds he stopped and raised his hackles. HE GREW 6 INCHES IN HEIGHT !!!!

It was bout now I started looking for a tree that would hold a Sasquatch, at 15 yds he started the "Hamp trot" as I call it, not a charge, but a gate as going to the feed trough.
Thats when I became intimate with my tree.
With jaws popping he only came to 8 yds, but that was close enough. I'd guesstimate him at #180 - #200

He decided I wasn't a threat and went back to the group, they milled around and each slipped in to the elephant grass and mingled around inside just out of sight.
By now, it was too dark, so I backed out and walked back to the truck.

Pretty exciting night !!

With the help of DW and his friend, the 14 foot double seated condo was removed from the public hunting area today. It now is at my house under going renovations, which includes a new floor(purty important) two new pedestal seats, and a new ladder configuration to scale the beast. We also will add a floor half way up a first floor if you will, be it for a traditional shooting platform or camera perch. it'll also be enclosed on 3 sides and partially on the front. and a roof on the very top might be nice too, we'll see.

I'll make it as weather proof as I can, maybe add some burlap sides and partitions in front to hide us.
It will be permanent fixture at the ranch across the creek away from riders and people just wondering around.
My damage control permit allows me all methods of take 24/7, hogs are one step above vermin here. only the mongoose is considered vermin.

Stay tuned for the progress...........

Trying to get the stand ready and set up, even got the video camera out and charging.
Rained saturday evening here so hunting was a bust.
Hopefully it'll fall into place real soon.

I was so glad to see it raining up the hill when I drove by, cuz I couldn't go huntin. :D
Oh hey Mark, I got a little gadget for ya that I found. It's a screw in adjustable camera mount. One side screws into your camera mount bushing and on the other end it has a long screw for screwing into the tree or whatever.

Is the mount red and black with a wing nut on the bottom? I lost mine.
Yep it was raining solid, not real hard, but enough to wash a blood trail away in just a few minutes.

I'll probably reset all the times on my feeders today, it's getting dark earlier, I'll see if I can get them to come in sooner. Might have to shut them off for a couple of days. I set a "trail timer" at the stands I have activity between 1 and 2 oclock so I might set one 2 second feed for 1:30, just to mess with there heads.

You ready to move yet? Give me a hollar if ya need help.
