Hello all!
Daveco here from just west of the Land Between the Lakes area of Western Ky. I'm not much of a hunter or shooter anymore, but used to enjoy deer hunting- as a kid and then in the later years with recurves and I always enjoyed hunting with the various muzzleloaders that I've owned or borrowed. Since the last 2 or 3 years I'm not able to get out and do that sort of thing anymore though. :( As my in-Laws always said, "Getting old ain't for sissies!!" I've had a few factory front loaders, and killed several deer with them too- but none of them were built from a kit.... well except for the 1860 Army in .44 about 30 years ago.....
Here in the last few months, I've been bitten by the "Build a Longrifle" bug and have spent a lot of time reading and also scouring the internet about the rifle building process. So now I've got a pile of iron parts with a 13/16" by 42" Rice .40 caliber barrel and a partly pre-carved stock in the Southern Mountain style, a double set trigger kit, and since I've got a lot of time I also chose a small Siler Flilntlock kit. I have access to a fairly well-stocked shop with a mill, a good-sized lathe, an anvil and forge, and a good assortment of hand tools. There's also a pretty good selection of wood-carving tools. I'm not able to just fly into the build, and really expect it to take a LOOONG time to get it to the finished state, but hopefully that will mean fewer mistakes!
Anyways, enough of my rambling
Looking forward to getting to know y'all!!

Daveco.

Welcome aboard. Some really knowledgeable folks on this site. Feel free to pick everybody's brain. Some have enough to share, others like me, don't have enough left to give anyone a piece of their mind.....it would take all of it to be a piece. Anyway, you're going to enjoy this site. Thanks for the warm welcome!! Ha Ha! I'm with you there KsBow!! I always make it a point to check my handkerchief after I sneeze, just to make sure that I didn't lose any more of what little is left! :D

Eddie.. my son and I went through there a couple of years ago on the way to some little town to look at Bridgeport Mill... I remember now- it was Selmer, Tn. I was surprised to find that Jackson is a LOT bigger place than I thought!! That was my first trip through that stretch of the world. Lots more populated than I had imagined it to be!!

If I get a chance, I'll post up some pics of my slow progress on my rifle and other projects. Not too much to see yet, I'm still assembling the lock and am to the point that I need to chuck the tumbler up and face it to the correct thickness. College starts back next week, so my son won't be working in the shop and maybe I can work on it then...

Y'all stay warm!!
Daveco.
