coffee in camp

Postby robert n leeper » Wed Jan 14, 2009 8:38 pm

a lot of times when im on a hunting trip i get the urge to boil up a cup of hot coffee. recently while looking at some very old books on fishing and hunting i came across an item called the Kelly kettle, i researched it and its design is perfect. you fill it up with water, at the spout, stuff twigs in the volcano light it up and soon you have boiling water (about two and a half minutes . with the leftover coffee, some bacon grease and a large spoonful of flour and some creamer, i can make gravy
for my biscuits, add salt and pepper and its a meal, along with a steaming hot cuppa joe.

I like the sound of that. Also, I love making homemade gravy and the creamer idea is great to save weight.

Have any pictures of the Kelly kettle?

ive got a friend who is going to try to make me a ceramic version of the kettle. she says shes intrigued by the design and wants to experiment with it some. she uses a titanium ox based clay and coats it with a special refractory glaze . i hope to take a few pix and will post them here ..
