Thanks for the approval and support!!
Still working on the maker - the date is definitely early 1900's - the metal stamping and the hinges are likely pre-1920. The finish was several (Many) coats of shellac. it took a trash bag of rags and nearly a gallon of denatured alcohol to remove all the ancient gunk and reveal the real color of the wood again. Most makers switched to a varnish after about 1915-20... Because shellac got expensive and varnish was cheap and more water resistant.... Some of the other features are the wheel sockets - the steel is not plated at all = earlier...... also the joinery was hand done no machine cut notches or tenons...so I'm going with 1900-20 somewhere in there..... I have found several other chests with similar findings and scroll work and all have been turn of the 19th century.....soooo I'll keep looking and sooner or later I'll discover it's providence.
