roughing it

Postby mountainrifle » Mon Dec 07, 2009 5:52 pm

ever since my first wilderness survival campout with the boyscouts, ive been hooked. i love to go out into the woods with my flashlight, knife, some rope, and some MRE's( if i cant hunt in that area ;) ). anyone who has never done it should give it a try. :D

P.S. if its raining, dont forget your tarp! :rolf:
I love the smell of Blackpowder in the mornin'

theres nothing more fun than roughing it. i take my fire starter kit, flint and steel, the clothes on my back, some twine, and a piece of plastic drop cloth and set up camp. i carry an assortment of food and water, and ive been learning how to lighten my load, improvise with new materials and adapt to doing without. now that im back on the road to health, the winter is just a precursor for spring gobblers

once i set the tarp up and rolled it up on one end with nothing but pine needles under one fold. makes a great bed , warm and comfortable. i stayed there for a week, living out of my backpack. ate wild raspberries i picked, and a few rabbits i took with a snare. or with the bow.. its so easy to lose sight of basics with all the crap you think you need to be comfortable. simple is better
