Re: Traditional , modern , or both

Greenmountain, I agree with your views on ethics. I can't count the number of animals I have let pass because I couldn't get a safe or clean shot with either a bow or a firearm. As for my shooting preference, I own a compound. But I haven't shot it in over 12 years. When I'm bow hunting I like a sim...

Re: snobs. Who needs them?

Once every few years some random stranger will give me advise that actually pays off. I try and keep that info and use it, also trying it in other spots to see if it will pan out there. And if it works for me, I try and pass it on to the next generation. The info from the story earlier, although tol...

Re: snobs. Who needs them?

I agree, Bob. I don't suffer snobs very well, but sometimes they can surprise me. I've got a lake I like to fish here in the NEK. There's this old timer who haunts it. Long grey hair and beard, dirty green pants and flannel shirt, talks with the woodchuck accent, and always smells like beer. And he'...

Love your stories, man. Wish I could visit and talk you into taking me along. I've never hunted hogs (we don't have 'em here in Vermont yet) but it sounds like you've got the place to do it. Good luck on that big sucker.

Books on fly fishing, some flies, a new pair of wading boots, a "ministry of silly walks" wristwatch, and some warm clothes. Made me happy!

Re: URAC-185 is no more...

I took the new BBI off the form on Monday and scraped off the glue boogers. Sure enough "Unibond 800" did the trick. Just as easy to work with as URAC-185. Mixing ratio is a little different but it was no problem. I found that Unibond 800 goes a little farther than URAC-185 so I can probably get 5 o...

Re: Beginner: Where to buy bow woods?

Also, search for "exotic hardwood" in your state. I have found several lumber retailers who carry Ipe, Brazilian Cherry, and Zebra Wood cheeper than I could find online and with no shipping costs.

Re: URAC-185 is no more...

I ordered some "Unibond 800" from 3 Rivers Archery and glued up a new BBI longbow on Thursday. The mix ratio was different but other than that it seemed to work exactly like URAC-185. I'm letting it sit in the form over the weekend and I'll report back when I unclamp and unwrap my new bow on Monday....

Re: Need help with tri lam bow

Nelson Paint is still alive and kick'n. They sell "Unibond 800" now to replace URAC-185. I have yet to use it, but that's what they're selling at 3Rivers as well. Sharpie223, I'd love to see pictures of what you're doing. I agree with Greywolf. 3Rivers will set you up. Good luck and show us what you...

Re: 2012 Harvest Thread

I cut up the doe last night and on further inspection I found I didn't make a perfect shot, and the maxi ball didn't deflect at all. I aimed at her right broadside. When I pulled the trigger she was turning to bolt the way she had come. I thought she had turned when I made the shot, but apparently s...

Re: 2012 Harvest Thread

Thanks, KC. I'm primarily a trad. bow hunter. But even when I use a firearm I still set up like a trad. bow hunter. I've got no problem with people hunting "distance marksmanship" but, for me, thats not my thing. I like to get close enough to be "up close and personal". She dressed out at 140 pounds...

Re: 2012 Harvest Thread

After 4 weeks of not hunting because of a crazy work/family schedule, I made it over the river to New Hampshire this morning for their muzzle loader opener. I took this 140 pound doe (dressed weight) with my .50 T/C Renegade at 6 yards. The 370 grain maxi ball entered just behind the left shoulder, ...

Re: Natural Blinds / Ground Blinds

I use both. I have a store bought ground blind in a likely spot that I take my 2 boys to when they hunt with me. I find it masks movement well, which can be an issue with an 8 year old and a 10 year old. Rest of the time I use a natural blind and sometimes a tree stand.

URAC-185 is no more...

I called Nelson Paint Co. today looking for URAC-185 and was told that the manufacturer is out of business. The nice lady in Michigan told me they now carry a product called Unibond 800 which, according to her, is the same product but has a different mix ratio. I gave 3 Rivers Archery a call and Jus...

Re: october 1st get here soon!!!

Good luck, guys. I've been hunting in New Hampshire for the last two weekends. Came close to a funky spikehorn but he wouldn't give me the shot. Season opener in Vermont is Saturday, Oct. 6th. But due to a late spring freeze there is a lack of apples and the acorns haven't started to drop yet. It wi...
