Beaver and Elk hide chopper mittens

My brother traps and got a beaver. He tanned it himself and wants a pair of chopper mitts. Since the hide was not professionally tanned its not been thinned and its not as soft or pliable as I would like but the fur is great. http://i1045.photobucket.com/albums/b452/staysharpguide/beav1_zps8vztbena....

Re: 2016 Archery Bear hunting blog (the home made edition)

I have not missed an archery deer opening day in a long time but because I have two bear to deal with I had no choice. Friday night, the meat was thawed enough to work with so I began cutting and trimming. I also began the process of doing Euro mounts on both skulls as well as salting the smaller (t...

Re: 2016 Archery Bear hunting blog (the home made edition)

The bear hunt was short and sweet (almost too fast) I just dropped off both of my bear at the Butcher. Normally I would do them myself but Im 5 hours from my home butcher shop. Interesting and exciting story on how I ended up killing two bear. Im putting together a video with pictures and video expl...

Ditching the Go Pro found a better action cam

Im super excited about my primitive archery bear hunt that starts on Monday but now Im even more excited because Luke Hansen with Ultimate Predator went above and beyond ensuring me that I will have my new camera in time for the hunt with what is sure to be the hunter’s camera that replaces the Go P...

Re: 2016 Archery Bear hunting blog (the home made edition)

The archery bear hunt is fast approaching. In a little over a week, I make the trek to far Northern Wisconsin near the town of Cornucopia just south of Lake Superior's Squaw bay. http://i1045.photobucket.com/albums/b452/staysharpguide/map1_zpsjaflcsg6.jpg I will be hunting with Art Hyde of Northern ...

A happy/satisfied customer tale

As a consumer, we all make purchases and then immediately determine whether we made a good choice or not. We are either happy or unhappy with what we bought and that covers both the end product and the customer service. Many times we read online about deal gone bad and poor customer service and a wa...

the M.T.A.B.S. hunting seat

I like to hunt from the ground in natural debris blinds and pop ups at times but I don’t like the available options for ground blind chairs. I hunt river bottoms that are soft ground so chair legs sink which means the need to also haul in some sort of flooring material. Couple that with the fact tha...

Finally came upon some slippery plastic sheet stock 1/8" thick. The ramp is painted with a couple coats of exterior house paint and the plastic was added. Now to kill something and test it.

Re: The "Hunting gear" storage shed project

We added tracks/rails above the windows that will accept large plastic bins. This is done to save floor space. We selected clear bins so we can see whats inside without having to take them down. http://i1045.photobucket.com/albums/b452/staysharpguide/base999999999995_zpsqkmuktky.jpg http://i1045.pho...

Re: The "Hunting gear" storage shed project

There is a possibility of putting vinyl flooring in the shed thanks to a relative in the flooring biz that can get me the flooring for free so we put down a layer of ¼” thick underlayment. Why add vinyl flooring to a shed?? If its free and if we would care to butcher animals inside, it will be easie...

Re: The "Hunting gear" storage shed project

It was suggested that because we so completely enclosed the bottom of the shed to keep animals from living underneath that we also starved the underside of the shed of the flow of fresh air. The moisture trapped could pose a threat to the floor so we added 10 vents around the perimeter. The vents ar...

A double layer of weed barrier was laid inside the frame http://i1045.photobucket.com/albums/b452/staysharpguide/base999999994_zpsgtrb4z21.jpg Then a little over a yard of river stone is spread inside the timber frame. Re: The "Hunting gear" storage shed project

Dang this oppressive heat and humidity and rocky ground. The shed is surrounded by treated timbers and then another double high row 22 inches away. Long sections of rebar pounded into the rocky ground to hold the timbers in place. http://i1045.photobucket.com/albums/b452/staysharpguide/base999999993...

Re: The "Hunting gear" storage shed project

Since the shed is raised off the ground, its created a living space for skunks and other vermin. To address this, the exposed floor joists are skirted with treated lumber and caulked and painted. When everything dries, treated landscape timbers and rock will be added to improve the look and to furth...

Re: The "Hunting gear" storage shed project

Spent the weekend up north so not much shed work was done. Did however manage to work on the ramp. The ramp is made from a 8 ft, 2 x 12 that is cut in half and then the two halves cut diagonally to create 4 tapered ramp stringers. The 4 stringers were screwed to the shed floor so everything would be...
