Re: What Did You Do Today 2017

I'm seeing this on boards everywhere.
Social media.
Facebook has several trad groups and things are really busy there.
Kind of sad. I really like these message boards or forums.

Arrowhead collection

image.jpg
I inherited my grandparent's collection, many of which they found on various outings with my sister and I,
The two that really impress me are the bone awl and the steel trade point. It's amazing these two pieces survived, and are in great condition.

Re: Triumph and loss

We'll have to get together for a visit sometime. In the Springs, huh? There used to be some good archery clubs over there. Congrats on the cow! I've been pretty disgusted with the hunting around here and my heart just hasn't been into visiting the board. But now, I have a trad archery student who ha...

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Hey all Been trying to decide whether or not to post this. I still have mixed feelings but reality is just that. I almost didn't even bother to hunt this year. The elk hunting around here has been terrible for awhile now. Never the less, I continued my annual preparati...

Been looking at gravers myself. Not sure if I have the talent.

Re: Guess I should reintroduce myself

It was a huge boulder called life. Just waaayyyy too much going on.
Getting things under control and since my wife and I are "empty nesters" now, finally, I'm finding more me time again.
Glad to see a lot of the old crowd still around!

Guess I should reintroduce myself

Hello all I'm Ken, AKA Born2hunt. Been around this forum nearly from the beginning. I shoot longbows, recurves and a cap & ball revolver. The main thing I kill while hunting is time - and I enjoy every second of it. If I get to sharing too much sage advice (read goofy ideas) just call BS and I'll sh...

1858 Remmy elk grips

Made some elk antler grips for my Remington. Hardest part was final fitting.
Lots of putting on, taking off, sanding, repeat. Finally ended up with the grips I wanted.

Re: DIY Colorado Elk

JM SW Colorado hunting hasn't been real good the past couple years. That said, there are still good pockets of elk here. Your idea of staying light and mobile could make your hunt successful, if not memorable. Living here, I got sucked in to hunting the same mountain for several years and did so fai...

Amen Brother, that's what I used to really like about scouting. It made the season seem to start about mid-summer and increased those memories and adventures ten-fold.

Lessons Learned

Thought I would never say this but I took the ol honey hole for granted last season. You see, in the past I've had the mountain pretty much to myself and have been buried in elk most of the time. I got so I didn't even scout it prior to season. I mean, if you know every twig and pebble, why bother? ...

He's got 20 years on me and at 60 years old he is still a thoroughbred runner. Re: A few Questions for DIY elk hunters

The Noahs tarp can be purchased in 9'x9', 12'x12' and 16'x16'. I have used the 9'x9' solo and have had plenty of room with my gear. For two guys and your gear, I'd go with the 12'x12' at minimum. Otherwise it could be a bit cramped during a hard rain. Or, you both could get individual 9'x9' tarps an...

Re: Ok... season has been open..Any Updates?

Wish I had a harvest story. First weekend, set camp and dealt with rain. Not much time to chase elk but saw more tracks at my honey-hole than I've ever seen before. The elk were staying silent. Second weekend, lots of bugles. My wife and I couldn't get arrow-close to a nice 5X5 bull with some cows, ...

All of the San Juan National Forest maps will show you where you can use a 4-wheeler. I'm afraid you'll be using them on the FS roads only, unless I'm wrong. There are very few trails where ATVs are allowed around here.
